Introduction
Building on the successes and insights from the Africa Climate Forum (ACF) 2023, the Global Centre for Law, Business and Economy (GCLBE) continues to drive forward initiatives to enhance climate action. Following key declarations made at ACF 2023, we have undertaken significant steps to ensure ongoing momentum and impactful outcomes.
Background
Africa is frequently touted as the “new frontier” and stands at a pivotal juncture in its journey towards sustainable development. The realities of climate change dictate that stakeholders need to choreograph a symbiotic dance between the environment and growth. The Africa Climate Forum 2024 (ACF 2024) is poised to be a catalyst for change in this regard, bringing together stakeholders from across the continent and beyond to delve into the critical issue of Africa’s climate future. Under the theme “Africa’s Climate Future: Pathways from Dependence to Leadership,” the Forum seeks to ignite conversations, foster collaboration, and chart actionable pathways towards sustainable and inclusive economies. ACF 2024 will also be an opportunity to take stock of key climate commitments made on global and African platforms.
By exploring key themes such as energy access and growth, gender inclusion and clean cooking, climate finance, green manufacturing, sustainable agriculture, land use, and mining, ACF 2024 aims to identify opportunities for transformation. Through knowledge exchange, innovation, and partnership, ACF 2024 seeks to pave the way for a sustainable future that is both equitable and resilient.
Key Themes:
- Energy Access and Growth:
This theme will focus on strategies for expanding energy access, emphasizing renewable resources and community-led initiatives to empower underserved communities.
- Climate Finance:
Examining challenges and opportunities in mobilizing finance for renewable energy projects, this theme will explore strategies for leveraging private sector resources and governance frameworks for loss and damage funds.
- Technological Development and Green Manufacturing:
This theme will explore opportunities for building domestic manufacturing capabilities in renewable energy technologies and the cyclical relationship between renewable energy and sustainable manufacturing.
- Gender Inclusion and Clean Cooking
This sub-theme will explore strategies for promoting gender-inclusive approaches to clean cooking solutions, empowering women to participate in decision-making processes, and fostering entrepreneurship in the clean cooking sector.
- Sustainable Agriculture:
Identifying sustainable practices in agriculture, this theme addresses resource efficiency, conservation, and emissions reduction.
- Mining:
Exploring responsible mining practices, sustainable resource extraction, and value chain optimization, this theme will discuss environmental stewardship and community engagement in the mining sector.
- Youth as Climate Researchers:

Objectives:
